Making the Clock
Coming up with the idea
The process of coming up with the idea for my clock was fairly easy. I made a list of possible themes and then I would look for pictures that would work. At first I though I was going to do a snowboarding theme but I changed my mind. This was because I wanted it to put it in my basement next to my 3D printer. Here you can see all my sketches, the machines I used ended up to be different though.

Designing
At this point I was thinking of what else I needed and wanted to put on the clock. This brought to my next and last two machines the 3D printer and Vinyl cutter. On the 3D printer I made a mount for the wall and a thing to hold the mechanism in place. You can see those files in inventor below. I also vinyled my name onto the back in case anyone tried to steal it. It is also below.

After getting my idea ready it was time for me to start designing all my stuff. I started in Illustrator by getting all the designs, numbers, and the cutting out of it ready for the laser. You can see what the file looks like to the left.

Machining the Clock.
The first step in making my clock was actually cutting it out, this also included all the designs because it was all done on the laser. To the right you can see me getting my wood set up in the laser. After that was all done I then 3D printed a mount for my clock and I also cut out my name on the vinyl cutter. You can see the Screens of the two and the Vinyl cutter cutting out my decal below.

Putting it all together
Once everything was all cut out and ready it was time to put together. This was a very simple process because all I had to do was glue a few things on, apply a decal and then finally put on the hands. Below you can see me working on the decal and the hands.
Final Product
This Semester of IDEA has taught me many things and this clock is a collection of everything I learned. For this clock I learned how to put all of the stuff I learned freely into a project of my own. Whether it was cad modeling, using illustrator or any of the three machines I used. This was a great project because it reinforced everything I learned and allowed me to put it to the test.
